Beth
Cranmer-Smith is a registered Speech-Language Pathologist. Beth
completed her undergraduate work in Kinesiology at the University
of Waterloo. After working for 8 months as a Kinesiologist, she
attended the University of Toronto, where she completed her Master's
Degree in Speech Pathology in 1993. After working for a year in
Hamilton, she moved to Newmarket to work at the hospital that is
now known as Southlake Regional Health Centre. While she continues
to work part-time on the Stroke Team at Southlake, her main focus
is the Family Speech Clinic and Camp Inukshuk. Beth started Camp
Inukshuk 10 years ago as a way to provide children the opportunity
to develop their speech and language skills in a dynamic group environment.
The natural interactions between children and staff allow them to
learn to transition their skills from the clinic environment everyday
situations. Beth is often heard to say "I love my job because
I can make a difference in someone's life each day!"
Beth has been certified in the Hanen Early Language Stimulation
Program as well as PROMPT. She is a Certified Facial Therapist.
Most recently, she studied in California to become qualified in
Fiberendoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing.
At Southlake, Beth enjoys her role as Professional Practice Leader
for Speech-Language Pathology. In addition to her work at the Family
Speech Clinic and at Southlake, Beth is a Clinical Educator for
the Department of Speech Pathology in the School of Medicine at
the University of Toronto and also for the Communicative Disorders
Assistant Program at Georgian College.
Beth lives in Newmarket with her husband and their three children.
Beth enjoys skiing, playing and coaching soccer, and playing the
piano. |

Camp Manager and Lead Instructor |
Tammy
is a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA). She also has her Developmental
Services Worker (DSW) diploma. She graduated from the DSW program
in June of 1999 and was presented with the Finlayson Trust Award
for having the highest academic marks in her graduating class. She
was then accepted into the CDA program (the only program of its
kind in Canada at the time) and graduated with honours in September
of 2000.
Since then, Tammy has been employed full-time with the York Region
District School Board and part-time with the Family Speech Clinic.
Her clinical experience includes treatment of preschool and school-aged
children with disorders or delays affecting articulation, language
development, phonological awareness, apraxia and selective mutism.
Tammy decided to become a Communicative Disorders Assistant because
she realized the importance of strong communication skills as a
foundation for lifelong learning. She wanted to make a difference
in people's lives and "it is evident that Tammy loves her job"
quotes one of her co-workers.
Tammy's primary focus at Camp Inukshuk is to provide a communication
enriched program which allows children the opportunity to practice
their individual speech and language goals in a positive, supportive
environment.
Tammy is originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario but currently
lives in Newmarket with her husband, Adam and three children. In
her spare time Tammy enjoys scrapbooking and cooking - she is always
looking for new recipes! Other people would describe Tammy as: organized,
compassionate and detail-oriented. |
