Speech and Language Camp

Children who attend the Speech and Language Camp may have needs in the areas of:

  • Articulation
  • Phonology
  • Receptive and expressive language
  • Social interaction
  • Early literacy OR
  • They just wanted to be part of a fun and educational summer day camp!!

The Speech and Language Program is a theme-based, communication enriched program which combines learning with fun! Children practice their speech and language skills while participating in songs, crafts, baking, drama, games, stories and snacks. Some of our themes include: Creepy Crawlies, Robert Munsch books and Cookies!

Camp Inukshuk is a wonderful opportunity for children entering kindergarten, especially those who have not previously been exposed to a preschool environment. It teaches the following skills in a small group setting:

  • Speech: individual and group therapy
  • Language: vocabulary and grammar
  • Cognition: letters, numbers and early literacy
  • Social: practice social interaction skills
  • Emotional: improve self confidence
  • Physical: fine and gross motor skills

Parents and campers attend a screening session in June with the Speech-Language Pathologist and Communicative Disorders Assistant. During this session, therapy goals specific to each child's individual needs will be developed. If your child is under the care of another Speech-Language Pathologist, we will be pleased to work with that therapist to provide continuity of your child's goals. These goals will be practiced daily in a supportive environment through one-on-one therapy and small group activities.

Camp Inukshuk is more than just a place to practice speech and language skills. It also provides the opportunity for your child to:

  • Build friendships
  • Gain self confidence
  • Discover new talents
  • Be themselves
